About The Five Legs of the Cat:
The Five Legs of the Cat takes the reader on a journey beginning in Puerto Rico to different parts of the world, on foot. The reader does not have to actually be on foot. However, the reader might start seeing legs everywhere, perhaps themselves having more than two legs, like a cat more than two lives.
In Puerto Rico, there is the common idiom, "She is always looking for the five legs of the cat." It is said when someone is believed to try to complicate matters by overlooking and overanalyzing the situation. This book leaves it up to the reader to come to their final conclusion.
The Five of Legs of the Cat goes from a more narrative and prosaic to a more reflective and experimental style; from the mundane to the existential, the local to the international, the simpler to the complex experiences in life. It covers a wide variety of topics. The book can be considered an autoethnography, a poetic ethnography or an ethnographic poetry within the context of literary anthropology and native anthropology.
About Samiri Hiraldo:
Samiri Hernández Hiraldo was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She earned a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Michigan and currently teaches anthropology, religion, and women's studies at Florida A&M University. She has published academic works on these topics and continues to research them in collaboration with students. Her poems have appeared in a significant number of anthologies and international academic and literary journals. It has been translated into several languages and has five collections of poems: Al vapor (2020), Cuando el líquido es sólido (2021), The Five Legs of the Cat (2021), Perforaciones (2021), Carnadas (2023) and Cara de tierra ( 2023), three of which have been awarded. In recent years Samiri has delved into the area of literary anthropology, especially ethnographic poetry, linking it with field work, research, teaching and the dissemination of anthropological knowledge. She participates in and coordinates literary and cultural events, is a juror for the Florida Book Awards and ia member of the board of directors of the Palaver Tree Theater in Crawfordville, Florida.
About Chaos: Overcoming the Overwhelming:
Why did you choose to read this book description? Is it because of the cool cover? It’s okay…we have all judged a book by its cover at some time or other. Or is it because the word Chaos completely describes your life right now? Or maybe, just maybe, you thought the author was awesome and decided this book would be a New York Times Bestseller? Probably not the last scenario. If I had to guess, I’d say it has something to do with that overwhelming stress weighing down on you. Reality is, there are many people in this world facing hard times: anxiety, incarceration, loss, addiction, divorce, sickness, and I could go on but I need this description to fit on the back of the book…
How do we overcome these overwhelming times? Great question. I don’t have all the right words, which probably isn’t what you want to hear from an author. But I know Who does. His Name is Jesus. And He is the only One Who can bring unexplainable peace in the midst of your Chaos. Whether you are reading this behind prison bars, in the hospital room, at the funeral home, or on the awesome World Wide Web, I hope you choose to read this book. Chaos is inevitable. It comes like a thief in the night—stealing, killing, and destroying all we hold dear. But there is hope. Where the enemy comes to destroy, God comes to rebuild. He comes to restore. He comes to bring life and joy. This book isn’t some self-help book. Nor is it an autobiography. It’s a collaboration of real people experiencing real pain; and learning from them on how we can overcome the overwhelming. Jesus isn’t just the center of this book. He’s the beginning, middle, and end. And spoiler alert: He always wins.
About Noah Asher:
Noah Asher is the author of the Award-Winning Christian Book, CHAOS: Overcoming the Overwhelming. Noah is also the owner of The Chaos Movement. They help authors market their books as well as manage social media content. All proceeds of Noah's new book, CHAOS: Overcoming the Overwhelming are used to provide copies inside prison libraries and rehab centers across America.
