Meditations on the Path to Enlightenment
About this Event
Open to everyone, this course introduces traditional Buddhist meditations called “Lamrim” (the stages of the path to enlightenment), which can help guide us on the path to a more peaceful and meaningful life.
Meditation topics include: meditating on Lamrim, reflecting on our precious human life, impermanence, and practicing loving-kindness.
Each session will include a teaching, chanted prayers, and a guided meditation. No previous experience of meditation or Buddhism is needed.
Teacher:
Gen Kelsang Suma is a Kadampa Buddhist nun and senior Teacher in the New Kadampa Tradition. She has been a Teacher under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for more than 25 years.
Gen Suma previously taught in Barrie and Ottawa.
She is well known for the practicality, warmth and clarity of her presentation of Buddha's teachings, making them very relevant to our daily lives.
Course Schedule
Session 1 — 10:00–11:00 am
Contemplating and Meditating on Lamrim
Introduction to Lamrim and how to meditate effectively.
Break w/refreshments — 11:00–11:30 am
Session 2 — 11:30 am–12:30 pm
Meditation on Our Precious Human Life
Reflect on past lives and the precious opportunity of our current human life.
Lunch on your own — 12:30–2:00 pm
Session 3 — 2:00–3:00 pm
Meditation on Death
Reflect on impermanence and mortality to cultivate clarity and mindfulness in daily life.
Break w/refreshments — 3:00–3:30 pm
Session 4 — 3:30–4:30 pm
Meditation on Loving-Kindness
Cultivate compassion and loving-kindness through guided meditation
