Demos by Claíomh will be presented in Dublinia over two days on arms and armour in Ireland c. 1390-1580 including a series of short talks by archaeologist Dave Swift:
12:00 Defensive gear: helmets, shields and armour - includes latest info on native Irish bascinets
13:00 Both sides of The Pale: curbing native Gaelic styles - fashion, arms, art and the law
14:00 Medieval arms in Ireland: an overview of projectiles and close combat weaponry
15:00 Warfare in Gaelic Medieval Ireland
A wide range of reproductions and artefacts will be utilised showing the equipment and clothing used in both the Anglo-Irish world and in Gaelic Ireland. Swords, pole-arms, late medieval ballistics and defensive armour are a few of the topics that shall be discussed in detail. A diverse range of domestic goods will also be on display including evidence for clothing from Irish bog finds, ceramics, medieval symbols and motifs, Irish hammered coins and natural dyes.
