During the medical approach to otitis externa day we will discuss obtaining a history in patients with otitis and how to perform a thorough physical examination while avoiding inducing ear phobias. Other topics will include the underlying causes of otitis externa, the differences between otitis media and otitis interna, management of otitis externa including the use of different topical medications, and how to educate clients on this often frustrating condition in which client compliance is critical. Finally we will finish on discussing recent research and trends relating to otitis externa and how cats differ from canine patients.
The surgical practical cadaver sessions will be focused on total ear canal ablation/bulla osteotomy, (focusing on how to locate the facial nerve during TECA).
