About this Event
Media Matters: Developing Media Literacy Skills to Fight Misinformation
About the program: Trust in the media has diminished over the last several years and yet the media is a critical player in democracy. As the amount of information available intensifies, knowing how to engage in media critically and responsibly is more important than ever. Jennifer Durham, Adult Enrichment Librarian at the Wichita Public Library, will discuss how strengthening your media literacy skills such as evaluating information and developing healthy media consumption (and creation) habits can be one of the best tools for fighting misinformation as we work to regain the public's trust in media.
About our speaker: Jennifer is the Adult Enrichment Librarian at the Wichita Public Library, a position she's held since 2021. She holds a Masters of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State University and a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations from Central Michigan University. Prior to working in libraries, Jennifer worked in a variety of industries including sports and entertainment PR, healthcare marketing, internet marketing, manufacturing and non-profit mental healthcare. In her current role, she loves using her PR and marketing background to help not only promote the library's programs and services, but also to help adults in the Wichita community think more critically about how they engage with information around them.
