In this workshop, you will learn how to create immersive and interactive virtual worlds using A-Frame, a free, web-based tool for building virtual reality experiences. It is easy to use for beginners, and powerful enough to create complex projects as your skills progress. You’ll leave with the skills to make games and/or experimental websites.
Throughout the workshop, you will be introduced to the basics of virtual reality, including coding with HTML, creating three-dimensional objects and environments, and adding interactive elements such as animations and sounds. You will also learn the various features of A-Frame, including how to easily add interactivity and functionality to your projects.
You’ll be guided through each step of the process, from creating your first scene to building a more complex environment. You’ll have time to experiment and get creative with your project, with feedback from the instructor and your classmates.
By the end of the workshop, you will have created your own virtual world that can be viewed on a VR headset, or on any device with a web browser – smartphones, tablets, computers, etc. You will have a solid understanding of A-Frame and the basics of virtual reality, making it easy for you to continue exploring and creating your own immersive experiences.
No coding experience necessary, beginners welcome! All equipment provided, including Oculus Quest headsets for use during class.

Instructor: Ashley Peresie
Ashley Peresie is a new media artist and self taught scientist from Buffalo, NY. Working with electronics, code, and other earthly materials, they aim to reshape technological narratives of control into ones of feeling, listening, intuiting, and having faith. Their work usually involves sound and video installation, objects and instruments.
