Q:Who were the Rebel Dykes?
A: The Rebel Dykes were a group of young, punk lesbians who lived in London during the 80's who were usually seen as the outcasts of society. They were feminist, pro-sex work, pro-trans (many of them being trans, gender non-conforming or genderfluid) and were also heavily involved in political movements such as Section 28, Act-Up and the Poll Tax Riots. They fought for sex worker rights, sex-positive feminism and anti-censorship amongst many more reputable causes. The Rebel Dykes were also a part of arts & culture and would create bands, zines, club nights and festivals and most notably S&M club 'Chain Reaction'.
Q: What should I bring?
A: A dyke, much like what the Rebel Dykes stood for, is someone who is political in their identity and is pro-trans, pro-sex work and pro-sex positive feminism - so bring whatever you feel like represents this. They could be zines, artworks, projects, crafts, stories just to suggest a few - or if you don't have anything to bring that's okay! You can craft or just chat to other dykes who share the same values. We do encourage a 'show and tell' but this isn't mandatory by any means :)
Q: Is the event free?
A: Yes it is! However, if you'd like to make a donation it would be greatly appreciated as any proceeds made from this event will go back into funding future events for the collective as all events are self funded.
