McKay Hollow Madness
Schedule
Sat Mar 22 2025 at 08:00 am to 01:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Monte Sano State Park Huntsville, AL | Huntsville, AL
The McKay Hollow Madness Trail Run offers two distances, a 25k (15.5-ish miles) and a 12k (7-ish miles) both of which consist mostly of single track trail. The 25k and 12k will both start at the John Scoble Memorial Pavilion at 8AM. Depending on the distance you choose, you'll experience the "madness" of some of the most notorious sections of Monte Sano, including Sinks Trail, Panther Knob, Stone Cuts, Mountain Mist, Goat Trail, Warpath Ridge, McKay Hollow, Arrowhead and Natural Well Trail. At about 6.5 miles, the 25kers continue left while the 12kers will run right to climb out of McKay Hollow on the (in)famous trail section affectionately known as "Death Trail". This is a technical race with several difficult climbs and descents. In the event of rain, prepare yourself for an awesome time in the mud and water.
Aid: There will be TWO aid stations for the 25k and ONE for the 12k: the first at O'Shaughnessy Point (~5.1 miles) and the other at the Trough Springs Trailhead on Monte Sano Blvd. (~9.8 miles). THIS IS A CUPLESS RACE. You are required to carry a handheld bottle or a water bladder with you. Light aid station fare will be available at both stations.
Time Limits: For your own safety and out of respect for the volunteers, there will be strict cutoff times set at both aid stations.
AS #1 - O'Shaughnnessy Point - 1h 45m - 19:05/mi pace
AS #2 - Trough Springs - 3h 15m - 19:30/mi pace
If you arrive at either aid station after the posted cutoff time, you will not be permitted to continue. Transportation back to MSSP will be available if you are to drop or be cutoff.
Medical: Medical assistance will be provided by HEMSI and the Huntsville Cave Rescue Team.
The finish line will be well stocked with food, water, and soda.
Information regarding packet pickup location and time will be updated by 1/31/25.
**Those registering after March 1st may not receive a t-shirt, as they will have already been ordered and printed.**
