Da Vinci Requiem is a significant contemporary choral work by British composer Cecilia McDowall. It was written in 2019 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death and was commissioned by Wimbledon Choral Society.
It is distinguished by its imaginative fusion of sacred liturgical texts with Leonardo Da Vinci’s philosophical reflections, which create an expressive journey from darkness to light.
Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1911) is a piece which is both uplifting and quietly moving, setting poems by George Herbert into music that feels very natural and honest.
Blest Pair of Sirens by Hubert Parry (1887) is a really powerful choral piece that brings together ideas of heavenly and earthly music. Sung in 8 parts, the rich harmonies and big, flowing melodies make the music feel grand and uplifting. The way Parry sets Milton’s text helps to create a strong sense of unity and spirituality.
