Mayor Bibb's Northeast Ohio Science of Reading SUMMIT

This kick-off event is the first in a series of small-, medium- and large-scale gatherings (informal and formal) to share resources and bring focus to the "Science of Reading", an evidence-based approach to teaching children "how to read" so they can "read to learn".

On August 23 this "Side-by-Side" Summit will convene school administrators, educators and community leaders. It will provide a unique opportunity to understand how the "Science of Reading" is influencing updates to literacy strategies for early childhood and K-12 classrooms. Similarly, leaders will learn how this shift in the classroom calls for new and improved approaches for families to support children's learning in and out of school.

Leaders, like you, from a wide range of organizations, have been invited to launch this effort. Your help is needed to grow an organized AND organic network to lead a unified response to the implementation of the State of Ohio's House Bill 33 signed into law earlier this year.

Past and current literacy initiatives in Northeast Ohio are serving as a foundation on which to build this alignment with home, school and community resources. The time (and science) has arrived to push forward together with a renewed approach and unexplored collaboration that brings new meaning to the adage "each one, teach one."
