About this Event
Minelle Mahtani is an award-winning scholar, journalist, and broadcaster. Her work often explores the intersections of race, identity, and social justice. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice. Mahtani is also known for her radio show "Sense of Place" and her advocacy for racialized faculty. Her latest book, May It Have a Happy Ending, is a deeply personal memoir about grief, healing, and the complex relationship between mothers and daughters, particularly reflecting on her experience of losing her Iranian mother to tongue cancer. Through evocative prose, Mahtani delves into the emotional nuances of voice, loss, and finding hope. This promises to be an insightful event, offering both personal and academic reflections from a leading voice in critical geography and race studies. Light refreshments will be provided.
