Estreado em 1922, esta raridade do cinema mudo português é apresentado com uma nova composição sonora, encomendada pelo Batalha Film Center ao compositor Daniel Moreira e interpretada ao vivo pelo quarteto de cordas The Arditti Quartet. Rodado nas agitadas águas de confluência entre o Tejo e o Atlântico e realizado por Maurice Mariaud, Os Faroleiros esteve perdido durante décadas, tendo sido encontrado no Palácio do Bolhão, no Porto, em 1993 — onde a empresa do produtor Raul de Caldevilla, pioneiro dos filmes de publicidade em Portugal, teve a sua sede. Um filme que, pelo seu pioneirismo e audácia técnica, se tornou num marco do cinema mudo europeu, numa altura em que os mais desafiantes e ambiciosos filmes eram o resultado do esforço de equipas multinacionais, que recorriam aos mais variados exercícios de imaginação para reproduzir, no ecrã, realidades desconhecidas.

Released in 1922, Os Faroleiros is a rare gem from the silent era of Portuguese film. The new musical score commissioned to composer Daniel Moreira by Batalha Film Center will be performed live by The Arditti Quartet.
Directed by Maurice Mariaud, Os Faroleiros was shot by the turbulent waters where the Tagus meets the Atlantic. Presumed for decades to be a lost film, it was found in Porto in 1993 at the Bolhão Palace — former head office of the production company founded by Raul de Caldevilla, a pioneer in the national industry of film advertising. Innovation and technical daring earned Os Faroleiros undisputed recognition as a masterpiece of European silent film at a time when the most challenging, ambitious cinematic projects involved the joint effort of international film crews that devised the wildest tricks of the imagination to bring then-unseen realities to the screen.
Os Faroleiros was digitally restored under the FILMar project, helmed by Cinemateca Portuguesa with the support of EEAGrants 2020-2024.
