Biography
Matias Ortiz de Zarate, pianist
Matias is a Chilean pianist based in London. He began his studies with Elba Rojas in Santiago, Chile, and in London continued his training with Giacomo Tora. Over the years, he has participated in masterclasses with Stephen Savage, Charles Owen and Rolf Hind.
Matias has performed extensively in music venues in and around London, such as St Bride’s Church, The Almshouses Chapel (Faversham), the 1901 Arts Club, the Red Hedgehog, Peregrine’s Pianos, St Mary's Church (Twickenham), St Cyprian's Clarence Gate, Essex Church Kensington Unitarians, and the Guildford Institute. He actively participates in music festivals and has performed at the Croydon Performing Arts Festival, Stratford & East London Music Festival, the Coulsdon & Purley Festival, North London Festival, amongst others.
Matias holds a Licentiate diploma in music performance from Trinity College London, and is a certified teacher from The Piano Teachers’ Course UK. Furthermore, he has cultivated his love for music and piano alongside an academic career in economics (he has a PhD from the University of Southampton, an MSc and a BSc from the University of Chile). Following this Matias decided to dedicate himself fully to his piano studies, performing, and teaching.
