Duke of George presents
Matty T Wall Blues Bash 2025
Matty T Wall’s Birthday Blues Bash is back on for 2025 featuring 3 battle-hardened blues masters for a night of solid straight blues. Dave Brewer joins in for some sweet Stratocaster blues licks along with Andrew Winton on masterful slide guitar and “Diamond Dave Billing of the Doodaddies shredding on the harmonica! This will be a blues show not to miss for all those die-hard blues fans out there, with legendary drummer Ric Whittle on the drums and bassist Leigh Miller featuring all musicians together on stage jamming over their favourite blues standards.
Every time this event happens, it is a spectacle to behold for those blues fans out there, reminiscent of something that could happen in Buddy Guy’s Legends club in Chicago, but in none other than our favourite swanky New Orleans style Freo venue – the Duke of George. A show like none other!
Matty T Wall:
From sweet blues to gritty, stomping, blues-rocking beats, and now having eight nominations in the prestigious Independent Blues Awards in the USA, a Western Australian Music Award win and three back-to-back Number One Australian Blues albums, this is a breakout Australian blues artist you do not want to miss out on seeing, as the Matty T Wall band returns from tour in Europe this year featuring two killer rhythm legends of the scene, Ric Whittle on drums and Leigh Miller on bass guitar.
2019 saw Wall duetting with USA blues guitar legends such as Walter Trout, Eric Gales, Kirk Fletcher, Kid Ramos and fellow West Australian, Dave Hole, and following that up with a scorching live album “Live Down Underground” for 2022 – this band made waves at major Blues Festivals across Australia and Europe.
"I've been aware of Matty for a while now and have been a big fan"-Walter Trout
“I'm sure everyone will love this. The guy is a picker" - Eric Gales
Dave Brewer:
For over three decades, guitarist-singer Dave Brewer has been the backbone for many of Australia’s most seminal acts.
From musical beginnings with The Elks, Dynamic Hepnotics, Mighty Reapers & The Catholics from the mid 70s til recent yearsand more recently with his own outfit, Dave has released three CDs of original songs, “Life Of Riley”, “Night Walkin” and the newer “Long Road Back Home”. With this new release, Dave offers 11 original songs that further develop his blend of blues, soul and funk.
Andrew Winton:
Andrew Winton, the younger brother of famed author Tim Winton, initially played drums before moving on to play electric guitar. He completing a degree in Jazz at the Conservatorium of Music in Perth.
Winton performed with Adam Brand before joining a Funk Rock band, 3Ph, which in 1997 won Western Australia's Next Big Thing competition.
In 2002 he decided to embark on a solo career, switching to dobro and slide guitars. Winton released his debut album, Barrel of Monkeys, in 2003. In 2006 Winton released his second album, The Decompression Chamber and also won an Australian Songwriter's Association Award in the Folk/Acoustic category. In 2007, Winton was nominated for a Western Australian Music Industry Awards for "Best Blues/Roots Artist", he was nominated again in 2008 for "Best Guitarist", and in 2009 received two nominations for "Best Guitarist" and "Best Blues & Roots Act".
In 2010 he was placed third in the Folk/Acoustic category at the Australian Songwriter's Association Awards and was nominated for the Rudy Brandsma award for outstanding achievement in songwriting.
“Diamond” Dave Billing:
”Diamond” Dave masterfully demonstrates a full understanding of the many styles of the harmonica – from the expressive acoustic approach to the ‘driving’ amplified style. Using the chromatic harmonica, Dave has developed one of the most distinctive styles heard in Australia – such a great tone with ideas to match! Dave spent the late 1980s and most of the 90s performing with his band the Mighty Mudcats. In 2000 the Mudcats changed their name and introduced new members including Dave Brewer who recently returned to live in Perth. The Doodaddies have become legendary in the Perth blues scene!
