Boston-based Matt Sharrock (they/them) is a marimbist, percussionist, and conductor who champions the music of living composers. “Time-Lapse” is a new solo show for vibraphone and electronics that explores the function of soliloquy in the modern world. Featuring music by Keith Kirchoff, Elainie Lillios, Dan VanHassel, and Pamela Z, it invites the audience to question the nature of individuality.
Matt serves as half of bass clarinet/marimba duo Transient Canvas and is assistant professor of core studies and composition at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. A founding member of Hinge Quartet and the Boston Percussion Group, Matt is resident percussionist with the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston. They perform as an orchestral percussionist with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra, the Vista Philharmonic, and the GRAMMY-Award-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and have performed with the Lydian String Quartet, Boston Musica Viva, Sound Icon, the Lorelei Ensemble, and Dinosaur Annex.
Zach Hannah, the Johnstone Fund’s Poet in Residence, will recite a poem revealing his interpretation of the program.
Admission is free. This performance is part of the “New Music at Short North Stage” concert series. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis and performances are recommended for ages 9 and older. Parking assistance is available through the ParkColumbus app.
