Rising from the club scene in Montreal as a teen, Senja signed her first major record deal at 26 with her country band, Ladies of the Canyon. The all-female quartet quickly gained notoriety and a dedicated following, garnering award nominations from Radio Music Canada and from the Canadian Country Music Association for their singles “Follow Me Down” and “Maybe Baby” - both written by Sargeant. Senja toured extensively with the group through Canada, the USA, and Europe, sharing the stage with renowned acts such as fellow Canadians: Broken Social Scene, The Dears, Andy Kim, and Ron Sexsmith, and opening for legends like Kenny Rogers, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Alan Jackson, Lhasa de Sela, and Great Big Sea.
After leaving the band and setting out as a solo artist, Sargeant, a romantic at heart, relocated to The Netherlands for love. What seemed like a dream was ultimately a nightmare rife with toxicity, emotional and physical abuse. The song ‘Thunderheads’ on the upcoming EP was a song written post-breakup, which Sargeant credits for helping her process and come to terms with the unfortunate situation. This was the tipping point for the artist and following an 8 year hiatus from the music industry due to a myriad of personal struggles, she resigned herself to fully committing to her craft and dedicating her time to what she does best; music.
In 2020, just three years after the move, she was invited to appear on the hugely popular television program The Voice of Holland and became an instant fan favourite with Team Waylon. He was sure "you have a divine talent." Anouk went the extra mile by saying: "you are one of the few real musicians here." Still, Waylon eventually pulled Sargeant out of the competition. Waylon claimed he would rather collaborate in person than continue with her on the live show. Anouk was visibly shocked and must have asked herself several times if he could make this really happen?
In 2021, Sargeant returned to national television on the talent show Beat Me on SBS6: The Five Knockouts, where she again made a splash and won the hearts of the jury comprised of Dutch celebrities such as Gordan, Ronald Molendijk, and Jan Dulles. In 2023 the artist was invited to participate in competition showcasing the Nation’s best singing talent called “ The Talent Scouts”.
After the release of Sargeant’s self titled EP in September 2022, Sargeant has been busy touring the Benelux and developing music for her softmore release.
Johnny’s an enigmatic signer/songwriter known for his raw, stream of consciousness songwriting and his uncanny ability to transcend live (think Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan). A true underground gem.

Montreal’s leading rock radio station CHOM 97.7's Jason Rockman says,"When John plays.. everyone stops to listen. He's just got that thing and we are just scratching the surface with his talent..”
Johnny's shared the stage with world wide acts including Daniel Lanois, Schoolboy Q, Lord Huron, FKA Twigs, Chet Faker, Run the Jewels, the Kills as well has played sold out shows across Canada, the US and Europe including headlined gigs at the International Montreal Jazz Fest and Folk Fest. He won 1st place in the International song writing competition “Recording Festival” beating out thousands of artists from around the world in every genre. He did all this while remaining totally indie (without a record deal or significant social media presence).
