Matriarchs Uprising: Talking Truths Circle Conversation

About this Event

As part of Matriarchs Uprising, a three-day festival of contemporary Indigenous women’s dance presented by Dance Victoria in partnership with O.Dela Arts, this Talking Truths Circle Conversation invites audiences into an intimate and reflective dialogue on artistic practice, cultural legacy, and lived experience.

Hosted by Olivia C. Davies (Anishinaabe), the conversation features choreographers Sophie Dow and Samantha Sutherland as they share their truths and experiences as creators of cultural legacies. In this decolonized space, where two concentric circles meet, the public is welcomed as witnesses to the conversation. As witnesses, one person in the outer circle will be called upon to share their witness account and carry the conversation forward into their own circles.

All are welcome to enjoy this contemplative and expansive artist conversation grounded in deep listening and shared learning, while exploring each speaker’s lived experience and the inspiration guiding their life paths, artistic practices, and cultural creations.

A complimentary light lunch will be provided for attendees.

Venue Information
Dance Victoria Studios (2750 Quadra St. #111) has level access on the top floor accessed through the upper parking lot. It has two gendered washrooms and one wheelchair accessible, gender neutral washroom.
Parking & Transit
There are two free parking lots: one in front of Dance Victoria's main entrance and one beside the side entrance in the upper parking lot. Some of the BC transit bus routes that run near Dance Victoria are: #6 along Quadra St, #4 along Hillside Ave, and others along Douglas St.
