Kicking off SWAIA by Celebrating Indigenous Business, Entrepreneurs, and Professionals
We are excited to announce Matriarch Mixer is coming to Albuquerque!
Join us as we celebrate community and connections!
The Matriarch Mixer brings together Indigenous entrepreneurs, creatives, and community members to connect, celebrate, and foster business growth. The event is co-hosted with partners who fund and support Indigenous-led ventures.
Indigenous entrepreneurs and creatives are honored at the center of this event. The wider public is invited to learn about, celebrate, and invest in their vision. Host organizations ICC, NMCC, and Startup Tucson provide funding and resources to support Indigenous businesses, and the Mixer unites these efforts.
The featured guest is Mikenzi Dupree of Still She Lives.
We hope Indigenous entrepreneurs and creatives feel inspired, recognized, and heard, and that all attendees leave ready to support their vision.
This event is open to the public. All are welcome, with Indigenous entrepreneurs and creatives at the heart of the evening.
Evening activities:
- Indigenous-Themed Trivia Night — a lively round of trivia celebrating Indigenous history, culture, and business changemakers
- Women Business Panel Fireside Chat — an intimate conversation with Indigenous women entrepreneurs on building and sustaining their ventures
- Earring Exchange — a signature networking activity hosted by Matriarch Mixer
The Matriarch Mixer is part of Indigenous Community Collaborative’s mission to advance economic opportunity for Indigenous entrepreneurs by creating spaces for connection, collaboration, and community building. Each mixer is co-hosted with fellow sisters and business owners Turquoise Devereaux (@indigenousskye), Mikenzi Dupree (@stillshelives), Jillian Waln (Konekted Media), Katherine Jacobs (@artbywalela), Roshan Spottsville (@photographybyroshan) and Carol Deed (@Generations4Change).
The evening is about celebrating the brilliance of Matriarchs today while honoring the cultural and generational foundations that make this excellence possible.
About Earring Exchange
To Indigenize the networking experience, we host a special Earring Exchange, a beautiful way to share story, style, and sisterhood. Bring a pair, take a pair, and meet someone new.
For Indigenous women, earrings are never just an accessory; they carry story, community, and identity. Passing a pair of earrings hand to hand, from one woman to another, is an act of sisterhood. At the Matriarch Mixer, you're invited to join this tradition: bring one pair of earrings to trade with someone new. Here are a few things to know before you pick your pair:
- Bring earrings you'd be proud to receive yourself, new or gently worn and in good condition.
- Whenever possible, choose a pair made by an Indigenous artist or small business. Uplifting Indigenous makers is at the heart of the evening.
- This isn't the place for mass-produced novelty or "costume" earrings.
- Know the artist behind your earrings? Bring their name, shop, or social handle. We'll help you fill out a custom Earring Card, so their business travels home with your earrings.
Every pair exchanged tonight carries a story and a chance to introduce someone new to an Indigenous-owned business. Come ready to give one, and take one home.
