Natif de Maliotenam, une communauté innue de la Côte-Nord du Québec, Matiu est un auteur-compositeur-interprète qui se démarque avec son folk-blues en français et en innu. Après un premier EP en 2017 et l’album Petikat en 2018, il lance Tipatshimushtunan en 2022, réalisé par Louis-Jean Cormier. Accompagné de musiciens d’exception, il livre sur scène un spectacle aussi festif que touchant, teinté d’humour et de sensibilité. À travers des textes inspirés de son quotidien, de sa communauté et de la quête identitaire autochtone, Matiu touche le public avec authenticité et énergie.
Reconnu pour ses prestations marquantes, Matiu a foulé les scènes du Québec, du Canada, d’Europe, du Texas et de l’Afrique, participant à de nombreux festivals dont les Francos de Montréal, le FEQ, le FME, et Le Festif! Il a aussi été invité à des événements en ligne d’envergure et s’est produit dans plusieurs vitrines professionnelles comme le ROSEQ, Contact Ontarois, Coup de cœur francophone et RIDEAU. Son parcours, porté par des prestations télé et médiatiques remarquées, témoigne de la place unique qu’il occupe dans la scène musicale francophone actuelle.

Originally from Maliotenam, an Innu community on Quebec’s North Shore, Matiu is a singer-songwriter who stands out with his unique blend of folk and blues, performed in both French and Innu. After releasing a first EP in 2017 and the album Petikat in 2018, he returned in 2022 with Tipatshimushtunan—produced by Louis-Jean Cormier. Backed by outstanding musicians, he delivers a live performance that is both festive and moving, infused with humour and sensitivity. Through lyrics inspired by his daily life, his community, and the Indigenous quest for identity, Matiu connects with audiences with authenticity and energy.
Known for his memorable performances, Matiu has toured throughout Quebec, across Canada, Europe, Texas, and Africa. He has performed at numerous festivals including the Francos de Montréal, the Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ), the FME, and Le Festif! He’s also been featured in major online events and showcased at leading industry gatherings such as ROSEQ, Contact Ontarois, Coup de cœur francophone, and RIDEAU. His career, marked by acclaimed media and TV appearances, reflects the unique place he holds in today’s Francophone music scene.
