World-renowned mathematician Po-Shen Loh is coming to speak to middle and high school families interested in math, innovation, and education
About this Event

Event Description

Seeking inspiration to love math? Looking for resources or strategies to build powerful technical thinking skills? Want to learn how to create and invent both inside and outside of math? Interested in living an impactful life? Then don't miss Prof. Po-Shen Loh's tour stop in town. He is a unique and approachable person who has directly made world-leading innovations in these topics, and he is spending his summer sharing his experience with the next generation of students, all across North America.

This math event will be a breath of fresh air, and not just because it will be held outdoors in a beautiful park. It will be completely different from an ordinary math talk. It will be fun and thought-provoking.

Hosted by Daily Challenge with Po-Shen Loh, this event is for families of students who will start grades 5–11 next school year (parents are encouraged to attend). Prof. Loh will weave together a variety of topics, starting from some math questions which demonstrate the power of mathematical creativity. However, the interactive talk will rapidly expand to stories from his own experiences applying mathematical thinking to innovate and implement new solutions to real world problems. The talk will also share practical strategies to develop skills in math and invention.

The topic of this talk is different from what Prof. Loh spoke on last year, when he conducted the largest-scale solo outdoor math speaking tour in history, visiting 40 cities over 7 weeks.

The audio/visual setup will use Prof. Loh's system which turns any outdoor space into a classroom. Please bring a phone, tablet, or laptop to view the visuals that he will share through his WiFi at the site. You do not need your own data connection.
