Math in Bloom - Fibonacci Day

The Fibonacci sequence is a number sequence used to model natural growth patterns, where each number in the sequence is the sum of the two numbers before it: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13… We’re celebrating Fibonacci Day early this year on 11/22, so you can come to the Conservatory and study up!
Celebrate Fibonacci Day at the Conservatory as we explore the fascinating connections between mathematics and the natural world! Discover patterns in plant growth, spirals in nature, and the ways math can help us better understand the living world around us.
Join a mathematician and horticulturalist for a guided tour of our biomes, highlighting plants that exhibit the patterns we see most often in nature and how they interact with the world around them
Create your own Fibonacci spiral-inspired artwork and visit our poetry station to write something inspired by the patterns and rhythms of nature.
At our interactive music station, experiment with technology that translates a plant’s bio-signals into sound and discover the connections between plants, music, and mathematics.
Start your morning with a winter birding walk, where you’ll learn about the Fibonacci spiral in nature and make a suet-filled pinecone birdfeeder to support our feathered friends.
Whether you love math, art, plants, or simply exploring something new, there’s something for everyone to discover!
Included with general admission!
