Maternal Mental Health
About this Event
Prepared for the Birth. Ready for What Comes After?
You prepared for the birth: the hospital bag, the birth plan, the nursery. But most childbirth education stops at delivery, leaving moms and the people supporting them unprepared for the mental health changes that can follow. This workshop is focused on exactly that.
In this session you will become:
Educated
Understand what’s really happening after birth. We’ll cover perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), the common misconceptions and assumptions about life after baby, and what the numbers actually tell us about how many families are affected. You’ll also learn the difference between baby blues, postpartum depression and anxiety, and postpartum psychosis through a hands-on activity.
Equipped
Information matters most when you know what to do with it. You’ll build a personalized postpartum support plan, learn where to find resources, and get clear on who your supports are and what each person can do. That way you’re not guessing when something feels off.
Empowered
You’ll leave feeling informed, prepared, and confident, knowing that struggling after birth is common, that help is available, and that asking for it is a strength.
Who this is for:
Expecting and new parents, partners, spouses, grandparents, and anyone who supports a new mom. No prior knowledge needed, just a willingness to learn and show up.
Facilitated by: Christ-Lynn Smith, Registered Mental HealthTherapist, trained in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International (PSI)
