About this Event
In conjunction with its fall exhibition Material World, the Artspace is pleased to host a Sound Bath with Laura Frank.
Laura is a ceremonialist and initiate in the Shipibo-Konibo lineage of the Peruvian Amazon. She has been a dedicated patient, student and apprentice in this beautiful medicinal tradition for over a decade.
Her sound bath is a unique healing experience that weaves together the doctoring chants of the Shipibo-Konibo, uplifting medicine songs, expansive mantra and sound healing to guide the passenger into a deep yet protected space for introspection, relaxation, healing and transmutation. Participants will lie on the floor for most of the experience but there may be some light stretching and qigong in the beginning, so dress comfortably.
Participants are invited to bring their own yoga mat, blanket, pillow or anything else that would ensure their optimal comfort. The Artspace also has a limited quantity of floor cushions for use as well as chairs and benches.
RSVP: Space is limited, and on a first come, first serve basis, so reserve your spot through Eventbrite. Email [email protected], or call 816-802-3571 for directions and questions.

About the Artist:
Laura Frank founded Inner Space, a yoga, martial arts and healing center in Kansas City, in 2013. Laura’s classes provide the space to align in the body, focus the mind, connect with spirit and unravel tension and trauma. Laura's practice blends various meditation techniques, yoga postures (asana), yogic movement (vinyasa), qi gong, mini lectures on ayurveda and yogic philosophy, chanting and sound healing. There is no template or plan as these practices are largely inspired by the time of day, season, environmental influences and the needs of the participants present. It is perfectly fine and beneficial, however, to do these practices at any time. She is known for her singing and chanting at the end of her classes to help support the integration of the work done in class.
Laura also has a background in performing arts; experimental theatre, music and dance. She completed her yoga teacher certification with the White Lotus Foundation but her yoga teachings are most influenced by her teachers Prema Mayi, Geetanjali Tiwari and Balaram Chandra Das.
Sound Bath with Laura Frank is organized by the Artspace as part of Material World, on view, September 20 – November 9, 2024.
