Matcha Essentials: An Express Class
About this Event
This one-hour express class will give you practical knowledge about matcha and show you how to prepare it at home. You’ll learn how to choose matcha based on how you like to drink it, whether traditionally or as a latte, and get to know the basic tools you need.
We’ll explore the flavor profiles of different matcha and what makes certain matcha especially well suited for lattes. Each table will have a matcha bowl and traditional bamboo whisk, giving everyone a chance to try whisking matcha and learn a few useful techniques.
You’ll also taste premium matcha prepared traditionally and experience how different cultivars and growing regions can affect its flavor.
About the instructor
Instructor Hiroko grew up in Japan and has enjoyed matcha since childhood. Her grandmother was a tea ceremony instructor, and Hiroko learned tea ceremony from her as well as through school clubs in Japan.
While she has a deep appreciation for the beauty and tradition of Japanese tea ceremony, she also loves a well-made, high-quality matcha latte. In 2025, she visited Wazuka, a renowned tea-growing region in Kyoto, and came away even more inspired to help people discover how enjoyable great matcha can be, whether prepared traditionally or as a latte.
