We begin our 26/27 Season with Titans Awaken, the NSO’s opening Masterworks concert on September 25, 2026 at 7:30pm at the Arts & Culture Centre. Conducted by the NSO's own Music Director Simon Rivard and featuring pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin presented by the City of St. John’s as part of the NSO's Masterworks Series.
The night opens with Bela Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a work of striking contrast and luminous beauty. This late masterpiece balances clarity and intensity, brought vividly to life by our guest
artist, an acclaimed pianist, Charles Richard-Hamelin.
The journey continues with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan,” presented in Erwin Stein’s compelling reduction. Mahler’s epic vision unfolds as a sweeping story of youth, struggle, irony,
and exultation, music that grows, transforms, and ultimately overwhelms.
