Mastering Lighting for Unpredictable Wedding Days

Join photographers Lindsey Michelle and Jullian Valadares (of Lensy Michelle Photography) for a hands-on, half-day workshop where they will share their anticipatory approach to lighting for fast-paced indoor weddings.

This isn't a course on how to light a floral arrangement. This is about preparing for the real chaos of a wedding day – entrances that happen 30 seconds early, speeches delivered from the wrong side of the room, and first dances that follow toasts with zero time to move a stand.

We've partnered with wedding designer Celebrations by Catalina to reconstruct the beauty (and chaos!) of a real indoor wedding so we can teach lighting live, in real time. We'll move through each phase of the wedding day from getting ready to the dance floor, making every decision out loud so you can understand our thinking, then allow you an opportunity to try it out yourself.

• Theory & Strategy: How to read a space, and build a lighting plan so you can nail every transition of the day
• Live Problem Solving: Real curveballs thrown in real time. What happens when the plan goes out the window?
• Flash & Continuous Lighting: Bounce vs. direct, and when to reach for a continuous light
• Run-and-Gun Lighting: Our lighting solutions and equipment for unpredictable fast paced moments
• Indoor Ceremony & Reception Lighting: Stand placement, color temperature decisions, and working with venue ambient lighting and design
• Dance Floor: How to capture energy of the dancefloor without killing the vibe of the ambient light

Lunch will be provided.

This is not a styled shoot. Though the day includes a model couple, a ceremony, reception, and more, this event is not geared toward portfolio building. Photographers are encouraged to bring their own cameras for the purpose of deepening their learning through participation, not to create content.
