Masterclass - THE CINEMATIC STORYTELLING FOR THE ACTOR

5 Days – Saturday to Wednesday
October 26th to 30th
The workshop aims to provide actors with a safe, supportive, and rich environment to explore key principles in cinematic storytelling.
Early in the week, actors explore a range of original, filmed, ‘short-form’ exercises devised to strengthen moment-to-moment work and truthful behavioral language that reads onscreen. We’ll investigate how visual stories are constructed and how this framework can liberate rather than constrain the actor’s expression. Actors will work in pairs through multiples takes, in a range of camera set ups, with particular emphasis on the close-up.
Actors will come away with tangible tools that enable them to bring more authenticity and veracity to their work on camera. All recorded work is viewed, analyzed, and discussed.
All takes from filmed scene work is sent to actors at end of intensive. (Work is left unedited.)

WELKER WHITE is an actor and educator with deep roots in theater, film and television. As an actor, Welker has worked with Martin Scorsese over many years. She can be seen in Killers of the Flower Moon, The Irishman ( Josephine Hoffa opposite Al Pacino’s Joe Hoffa), Lois Byrd in Goodfellas, and in The Wolf of Wall Street. She recently completed another project with Scorsese, to be released in 2024. Other film work includes leading roles in smaller films such as the recent Indies Crookedfinger and Gigi and Nate. Additional select film credits include the Sundance award-winning The 40-Year Old Version, Emmy award-winning HBO’s Bad Education with Hugh Jackman, Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts, Dead Poet’s Society with Robin Williams.
DAMIAN YOUNG is an actor and teacher. As an actor, Damian has over 100 credited roles in film and tv. He is often recognized for his early work in the films of Hal Hartley (Amateur, Simple Men, No Such Thing) and cult favorite Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete and Pete. His many television credits include recurring and series regular roles on: Ozark, Shrill, House of Cards, FX’s Damages, USA’s The War Next Door, Californication, HBO’s The Comeback, The Good Wife, Blacklist, White Collar, Person Of Interest, Numb3rs, Elementary, Third Watch, CSI: Miami, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Law and Order. His many film roles include Catfight, We Only Know So Much, Ocean’s 8, The Greatest Showman, Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck, and Alejandro Inarritu’s Birdman.
THE MOVING FRAME
Welker White and Damian Young are actors, educators, and founders of The Moving Frame. Dedicated to a process-oriented exploration of screen acting, The Moving Frame offers actors an immersion into the language of cinematic storytelling.
Welker and Damian have conducted screen acting intensives in some of the most respected universities and training programs across the U.S. and abroad, including: The Actors Center, NYU Grad Acting, Brown/Trinity MFA, Columbia MFA Acting, ACT, FSU/Asolo Conservatory, Syracuse University/ Tepper, SMU, Bowdoin College, The Freeman Studio, Montclair State, Emerson MFA Film, Wesleyan University, The Atlantic Conservatory, The Hartt School, and the 16th Street Studio in Australia. They have taught workshops for casting, producing, and directing professionals, as well as having served on the faculty for the National Alliance of Acting Teachers’ Teacher Development Program. Welker has several published pieces on using the camera in acting training and has been awarded a Fulbright Specialist designation. She is on the MFA Acting faculty at Brooklyn College.
