About this Event
This is a rare opportunity for those interested in international affairs, from high school Model UN students, to senior citizens, seeking a greater understanding of international conflict and diplomacy. It is your opportunity to listen and learn from a career diplomat, whose early career included serving as the State Department spokesperson for the 1995 Proximity Peace Talks at Wright Patterson AFB, which would produce the agreement known today as the DAYTON PEACE ACCORDS, for Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Ambassador Burns is now Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, following his retirement as US Ambassador to China (2021-2025). During the conflict in Bosnia-Hercegovina, he served on President Clinton’s National Security staff focusing on Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasian affairs. President George W.
Bush subsequently appointed him as Ambassador to NATO (2001-2005).
Ambassador Burns began his career as a Foreign Service Officer in Jerusalem (1985-87) and has written on the future of US diplomacy and the need for reforms to strengthen the Foreign Service. His career is testimony to the American commitment to diplomacy and leadership in international conflict resolution.
He will share remarks and take questions from the audience. Space is limited. Early registration highly recommended.
