About this Event
Discover the unique history of Indianapolis’s Massachusetts Avenue, a flourishing cultural and commercial corridor that anchors the historic district affectionately known as Mass Ave. On this 90-minute guided tour, participants will learn about the buildings and public art on each block of Massachusetts Avenue from New York Street to Bellefontaine. Along the way, guides will share stories of the area’s long-time role as a commercial and residential hub in the city, as well as the influential role minority communities have played in its prominence through the decades.
This outdoor walking tour departs from the Viewfinders Sculpture on the pedestrian crossing island where New York Street, Delaware Street, and Mass Ave meet (301 N Delaware St, Indianapolis). Groups will cover approximately 1 mile over the course of 90 minutes.
Please Note: The 90-minute tour concludes on the corner of Mass Ave and Bellefontaine, near the Bottleworks District. Immediately following the tour, guides will make the 15-to-20-minute walk back to the starting location with any tourgoers who wish to join, making the total experience approximately 2 hours. However, tourgoers are welcome (and encouraged) to enjoy the amenities of Mass Ave at their own pace following the formal conclusion of the tour.
