A semi-staged performance of Mascagni’s little-known and rarely performed Zanetto, sung in Italian with English surtitles. Only 50 minutes long with a cast of two main characters, Zanetto is a unique opera that breaks away from many conventions of the genre.
This modern-day production presents two unheard and hidden characters: a university student who works in online sex work (Silvia, soprano) and young woman experiencing homelessness (Zanetto, mezzo) who share a moment of true connection, but are ultimately blocked from pursuing a romantic relationship due to financial and societal limitations.
