Managing the foreseeable risks of terrorism in a legally compliant, risk-based and proportionate way to better protect people & property
About this Event

This workshop is kindly hosted by Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP, 19 Cornwall Street, Birmingham, B3 2DX.

The introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, informally known as Martyn's Law, marked a significant step forward for protective security in the UK. The legislation requires qualifying premises and events to impliment risk-based, proportionate measures that will ensure compliance with duties to better protect the public from the potential impact of terrorism.

The UK Government has committed to a period not less that 24 months to allow businesses time to understand the legislation and plan for implementation.

In April 2026, Section 27 Statutory Guidance was published to clarify the required framework for achieving legal compliance.

This workshop aims to focus on key points outlined in the Section 27 guidance to assist businesses to better understand the premises and events in scope, and the legal requirements aligned to Standard Tier Premises and Enhanced Tier Premises or Events.

This session will be facilitated by a Counter Terrorism (CT) and Protective Security specialist and former Deputy UK CT Co-ordinator, who has been at the forefront of developing and delivering UK CT Learning & Development. Birmingham Colmore's 'Safer Colmore' Project Manager will also be in attendance to update on how the BID has already supported businesses and the future plans in the lead up to full legal implementation.

This workshop is primarily aimed at business owners and managers of publicly accessible premises and events such as food and drink, entertainment and leisure activities, conference and meeting centres, sports centres, libraries, museums and galleries, visitor attractions, hotels etc, places of worship, health care, childcare, primary and secondary education, further & higher education, and public authorities - all of whom can reasonably expect at any given time to have 200 or more members of the public AND staff on site.

It will also be benificial for security managers, building and facilities managers to attend this session IF they are co-located within buildings that also accommodate any of the above qualifying premises cateogories.

Attendance is strictly via this Eventbrite booking process. The workshop is for the benefit of levy paying businesses based within the Colmore Buisness District. Birminghamn Colmore reserves the right to cancel any registered attendee who cannot demonstrate that they are from one of our constituent businesses.
