About this Event
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message of hope and perseverance in the face of struggle and injustice resonates today just as powerfully as it did more than half a century ago. Keep Moving Forward: The Persistence of Hope and Struggle will be presented on Monday, January 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
Music will be offered by the Joy Singers of the Yadkin Valley District, the Voices of God’s Children, and the Mount Tabor UMC Chancel Choir. Selections include Canticle of Peace arranged by Joseph Martin, You’ll Never Walk Alone / Climb Every Mountain arranged by Mark Hayes, and On Eagle’s Wings arranged by Marty Parks.
The service will feature readings from Dr. King presented by Fusion Youth, as well as scripture shared by Pastors Pam Blackstock, Michelle Foster Beckerleg, and David Beam. The audience will also find comfort in Amanda Gorman’s poem Hymn for the Hurting.
Join the community in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., continuing his message of moving forward in the struggle for justice, and celebrating his legacy of hope, love, and persistence.
This celebration is inspired by Dr. King’s enduring words: “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
The service is free and open to the public. Donations of canned meat, chicken or fish and shelf stable milk and cereal are welcomed to support the Maple Springs UMC Food Pantry.
