Garden Party Held Today……..
Chances are that unless you were getting married or ‘being hatched or dispatched’ you will not remember what you were doing or even where you were in the final weekend of June 1986. Unless of course you had made the journey to Milton Keynes and had the hottest ticket that summer smouldering in your pocket, heading for THE GARDEN PARTY at the MILTON KEYNES BOWL.

This was a pivotal time for MARILLION and their dedicated fans, from those who followed them from the Marquee Club to filling large concert halls. We truly felt like the band belonged to us, and we were an important part of their journey from the earliest days. The charismatic frontman, FISH with his heartfelt lyrics that seemed to speak directly to our own experiences, left a mark on us all. From the dramatic stage makeup and electrifying performances to the band's impressive musicianship, it was unforgettable. Suddenly, they were on the front cover of music magazines, featured in a major centre page spread in The SUN newspaper, and scoring a No.2 hit single with "KAYLEIGH"—even making appearances on ‘TOP OF THE POPS’ and ‘WOGAN’. Those moments truly were the best of times.

During the summer of 1985 MARILLION had released the classic MISPLACED CHILDHOOD ALBUM, it hit No.1, ‘KAYLEIGH’ was the song of the summer, ‘LAVENDER’ followed it to the top 5, and we all celebrated FISH’S ‘HEART OF LOTHIAN’. The album was still in the upper reaches of the charts the following summer as MARILLION geared up for their biggest show of their career.
By the time 60,000 fans (Official Attendance) celebrated the entrance of our heroes we had been delighted by Mama’s Boys, Gary Moore and Jethro Tull who were the opening bands and we settled in for a night like no other, the band played the entire MISPLACED CHILDHOOD album, straight through, as well as a trawl through their back catalogue. It was one of those shows that has stayed with you forever, people still get goosebumps when they talk about it.

Either way, you will not want to miss the show that celebrated MARILLION tribute band MARQUEE SQUARE HEROES are bringing to STANTONBURY THEATRE on FRIDAY 26th JUNE. The actual 40th anniversary weekend of the original show. It promises to be an amazing show. Positive feedback from enthusiastic audiences throughout the UK and mainland Europe emphasises MARQUEE SQUARE HEROES' impressive attention to detail and passionate performances. The band will replicate the entire set list, with an additional set of classic FISH era songs to leave you in no doubt that in the summer of 86 MARILLION were the biggest band in the UK, possibly even in Europe.
