About this Event
About the event: You’re invited to “Maroon Salon: A Black Feminist Gathering with Demita Frazier, Founding Member of the Combahee River Collective”! This event seeks to bring together Black feminists to gather with Black Women Radicals to celebrate the profound legacy of the Combahee River Collective (1974-1980), a Black lesbian, feminist, and socialist organization named after and in the revolutionary spirit of Harriet Tubman, whose activism and leadership have laid a blueprint for present-day and future radical Black feminist movements.
This event will feature Demita Frazier, social justice activist, lifelong Black feminist, and founding member of the Combahee River Collective and co-author of the Combahee River Collective Statement (1977), who will offer remarks on the importance of radical Black feminist politics in fascist times.
Moreover, the “Maroon Salon” is an extension of Black Women Radicals’ Special Blog Issue, “50 Years of Combahee”, which celebrated a half-century since the founding of the Combahee River Collective in 1974.
The event is free but a $10 donation is suggested to support Black Women Radicals' fundraiser to open a brick-and-mortar––a maroon––for our The School for Black Feminist Politics.
