A conversation with the Washington, DC chapter of the NAF.
About this Event

Following last October’s general election, a new Dutch cabinet will be sworn in on February 23rd. Led by 38-year-old incoming prime minister Rob Jetten, it will rely on a three-party coalition without a parliamentary majority, a rare occurrence in Dutch political history.

How will it navigate tension in the transatlantic economic and security relationship? Will it be able to manage the demands aging and increased defense spending place on fiscal sustainability? Can it move the Netherlands beyond festering conflict around asylum and nitrogen policy?

Join the Washington, DC chapter of the Netherland-America Foundation for a conversation about these and other questions featuring Marnix van Rij, the highest representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the International Monetary Fund. Before joining the IMF, Mr. van Rij was a senior tax partner at EY for more than 20 years and held a number of senior positions in Dutch politics. He was a member of the Senate from 2015 to 2019 and was minister for tax affairs and tax administration from 2022 to 2024. He also had two stints as the party chair of the Christian Democratic Appeal, first from 1999 to 2001 and again in 2021.

Following this discussion, we will have a happy hour (cash bar) at Tonic at Quigley's, located at 2036 G Street NW.
