Spend a relaxed and inspiring day learning how to create elegant, expressive lettering in our friendly, informal workshop.

Morning Session – Pointed Nib Basics

We’ll start with the foundations of pointed nib calligraphy, working through thoughtfully designed worksheets to build your skills step by step. Using coloured inks and metallics, you’ll practise refined letterforms on beautiful templates created by Kirsten Burke.

With live demonstrations and plenty of one-to-one guidance, you’ll gain confidence quickly — and create finished pieces you’ll be truly proud of. If calligraphy has ever felt overwhelming, you’ll love our clear, structured approach that makes it accessible, enjoyable and creatively rewarding.

Please bring a packed lunch and take time to relax before our afternoon session.

Afternoon Session – Bouncing & Flow

After lunch, we’ll explore the art of “bounce”, learning how to use variation in size, height and spacing to bring movement and personality to your lettering.

You’ll discover how to:

• Stack words beautifully

• Let letters rise and dip with intention

• Create phrases that weave together naturally

• Control bounce so it feels elegant — never messy

Through guided drills and practical exercises, you’ll develop a strong sense of rhythm, spacing and balance. Then you’ll bring everything together in a finished piece featuring bouncing lettering and a beautifully considered layout.
