Oklahoma-born. Texas-reared. Now calling New Orleans home. Mark Rubin is a force of nature — a master musician, storyteller, and unapologetic Southern Jew whose songs blend raw honesty with humor, history, and heart. For over 40 years, Rubin has been a driving presence in American roots music. From co-founding the groundbreaking Bad Livers with Danny Barnes — inspiring a generation of alternative bluegrass and Americana artists — to his acclaimed solo albums like Southern Discomfort, Songs for the Hangman’s Daughter, and The Triumph of Assimilation (which debuted at #13 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart), Rubin’s work is as fearless as it is deeply rooted.
His upcoming project, Dispatches: Songs from a World Gone Mad (2025), continues his exploration of identity, politics, and place — Southern Americana told through a Jewish lens. “To me, being a Jew means being socially conscious,” Rubin says. “I like to think I’m working in the same vein as my fellow Okies Woody Guthrie and Will Rogers.”
Expect a night of powerful storytelling, blistering musicianship, and plenty of heart from a one-of-a-kind voice in Americana music. Check out his website: https://www.jewofoklahoma.com/
