Mark Karan sometimes describes himself as "sort of a male Bonnie Raitt filtered through a psychedelic blender." Karan oozes passion and rock and roll spirit, presenting his music in creative ways that make folks perk up, dance... and maybe think a bit after the shufflin’s done.Best known for his longtime affiliation with the Grateful Dead folks as lead guitarist for Bob Weir & Ratdog, Mark is far more than his time in the "land of the Dead" might imply... a consummate team player for many years, his six-string contributions have added something special to tours with Ratdog, The Other Ones, Delaney Bramlett, Dave Mason and Paul Carrack... and as a guest for many impromptu sit-ins with the Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, Levon Helm, Chuck Leavell, Little Feat and many more...
“Playing with [Bob] Weir for over a dozen years, being encouraged to freely interpret the music as faithfully or as personally as I could imagine was a true blessing,” says Karan. “It was a huge opportunity to explore my musical connectedness and self-expression and that's still what it's still all about for me.”
This will be "MK's" first time playing The Back Room. Given his vibrant chops, warm voice, and intuitive, inspired grasp of music, it’s bound to be "don't miss this" evening.
Tickets are $18 advance, $20 at the door general admission; $15 for students with ID. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
