Mark Grace & the Pocket Shark
Mark Grace spent more than three decades with NOAA studying marine life in the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. In 2010, he and his research team made international headlines when they discovered a previously unknown species of shark, Mollisquama mississippiensis, commonly known as the American Pocket Shark. This rare deep-sea shark is one of only a handful of pocket shark specimens ever found worldwide and remains one of the most fascinating shark discoveries in modern marine biology.
Join us as Mark shares the incredible story behind the discovery of Mollisquama mississippiensis, the scientific process of identifying a new species, and what this remarkable shark can teach us about the mysteries still hidden in our oceans.
