About this Event

Emily Bjornsgard will be giving a presentation on "Marine Life in Photos", a literal and metaphorical journey to find new ways to see the marine life of the pacific northwest. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a marine emphasis from Western Washington University and an Aquarium Science Certificate from Oregon Coast Community College. Emily is the Lead Aquarist at the MaST Center Aquarium, caring for 250 fish and invertebrate species native to the Salish Sea, and spends much of her free time exploring the Pacific Northwest coastlines, camera in hand. In this presentation, she will be discussing how her work as an aquarist meets and overlaps with her passion for marine life photography, and how each benefits the other. She will be diving into some of the ways she designs aquarium exhibits, how everyday photography informs her professional work, and also will be providing some tips on how to she takes photos of marine life, both as a visitor to aquariums as well as when she is out in nature.
