About this Event
Marina Crouse is one of the most notable talents on the San Francisco/Bay Area music scene. Her early classical training is reflected in her powerful and versatile vocal style that creates a genuine excitement in every performance. Blessed with an incredibly expressive voice early in life, Marina Crouse applies her distinctive talents to a wide range of material while delivering an emotional authenticity that consistently cuts deep.
For this event she takes on Jazz Legend Ernestine Anderson!
Over her 60-year career, Anderson recorded over 30 albums, received four GRAMMY nominations, and worked with artists ranging from Johnny Otis to Lionel Hampton. She moved to London in the 60s when rock became the predominant popular music but enjoyed a much-deserved career resurgence after a memorable 1976 performance at the Concord Jazz Festival in the Bay Area.
Recorded in San Francisco. 1980’s Never Make Your Move Too Soon was a career highpoint for Anderson, with a Stix Hooper-penned title track that became her theme song and a program of finely rendered gems including “Old Folks,” “As Long as I Live,” and “My Shining Hour.” The album features a sterling backing band including pianist Monty Alexander, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Frank Gant.
With her soaring, soulful voice, Marina Crouse makes the music of Ernestine Anderson her own.
