About this Event

We will follow COVID 19 local policies for this class. Students will need to bring a COVID safety mask and other safety followed to Red Cross and local health direction.

One Day Review Course--You must have your certification current or under current COVID 19 allowed extension to be allowed to attend a Review Course.

Alternately: If your lifeguard certification expired during the last year of COVID times, you may do the PROVISIONAL COURSE ONLINE component, and join this in-water skills review here. If that is your situation, email Kimberly at: [email protected] for the specific provisional course link, separate from this enrollment, but DO enroll here first.

Either provisional or one-day review LGT students: Please be prepared to show the instructor first thing on arrival your certification. This class yields Red Cross certification for Lifeguarding as the foundation for employment at pools across the US and includes Professional Rescuer CPR, AED, and Lifeguard First Aid, certificates all valid 2 years from the date of successful course completion.

Course enrollment closes and course dates removed from this list once full.  Enroll soon to save your seat! We suggest watching our class review videos and do exercises online in the days leading up to class to prepare well for our intensive day.  Review videos and study guide are given once enrolled. Class runs 8 am to approximately 8:00 pm  (If you need a ride, please be prepared to text/call if done sooner or later)

Important note:

Registration for this course does not guarantee a Lifeguard Certification. Participants must pass the pre-requisite swim tests listed above as well as pass the exams (80% or higher) and CPR and water scenarios. If you put in the work, we will bust our butts to help you succeed. If you don't, you may not pass.  People's lives are trusting you being competent.

MORE ON COVID CLASS SAFETY:

Since lifeguard water rescue skills involve close physical proximity and/or physical contact, there may be an elevated risk of disease transmission, including COVID-19. By attending the class you acknowledge that you are aware of the risks involved and give consent to participate in the class. You also agree to have a face covering on at all times except during water skills.

To keep everyone safe, every participant will have their temperature checked prior to the start of class each day. You will be asked to wash your hands frequently and maintain physical distancing of at least 6 ft, (as much as reasonably possible). You will be asked the following safety questions in order to be admitted to the class:

Have you, or any member(s) of your household, been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus within the last 30 days?

Have you had any of the following symptoms in the last 14 days: Fever 101 F+, unexplained body aches or pain, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, chills with or without body aches, recent loss of sense of smell or taste, unexplained sores on soles of feet, unusual fatigue, non-allergy related runny nose?

Have you traveled outside of your area or attended any large gatherings in the last 14 days?

If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, or if you are unwilling to abide by the safety measures, you will not be admitted to take the class.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

17 years old by the last day of the class

Passing 3 Swim Tests as per Red Cross requirements at the beginning of class.

  • Swim 300 yards breaststroke AND freestyle (example: 12 lengths of a standard 25-yard public pool) demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing without stopping, not timed.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • A timed weight-retrieval drill (the Brick) where you swim 20 yards, do a surface dive to a 10-pound weight in 7-10 feet deep water, surface and swim on your back with the object 20 yards, exit the water without using a ladder or steps. The time limit is 1 minute and 40 seconds. This is an easy time interval for the normal swimmer.
  • Please note: Course tuition fees are not refundable for not passing the swim pre-tests. Although the tests are not exceedingly difficult, being a lifeguard takes solid swimming skills or you could put yourself and/or the victim in serious danger and have a double drowning. The Red Cross and your instructors take that seriously. Why not practice test yourself in the days or weeks before class?
