Marigny Opera Ballet Presents the World Premiere of DUSK
Original song and dance performed by local artists and culture bearers!
For the second program in its 11th season, New Orleans’ Marigny Opera Ballet presents the premiere of a contemporary ballet by internationally acclaimed choreographer Cassi Abranches. The new, contemporary ballet will be accompanied by an original score written and performed live by New Orleans’ admired indie rock group, People Museum.
DUSK is the headlining ballet in the second program of Marigny Opera Ballet’s 11th season, produced by the Ballet’s Artistic Director, Diogo de Lima. The new work celebrates endings and the promise of new beginnings. A new work by Mr. De Lima will accompany DUSK in the program.
Cassi Abranches, resident choreographer for Brazil’s Grupo Corpo, is well-known to audiences across Brazil for her work for stage and screen. She has also choreographed for Ballet Nacional Chileno, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and the Bolshoi Ballet on Culture Channel. Following the premiere of DUSK in New Orleans, Ms. Abranches will premiere a new work in New York City with Ballet Hispanico.
People Museum, one of New Orleans’ best-known indie rock bands, is known for its unique electro-pop style that is becoming increasingly cinematic. The group has performed to sold-out houses at the Marigny Opera House, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art, as well as at New Orleans clubs. Members of the band are Claire Givens (vocals and keyboards), Jeremy Phipps (trombone), Charles Lumar II (bass) and Aaron Boudreaux (drums). The band will feature guest artists Laura Fisher (piano and keyboards) and Meg Dwyer (saxophone).
