Movie Barf Monday is a film night dedicated to screening English-friendly films in Prague's Edison Filmhub. Every film features an introduction from film presenter Ryan Keating as well as a discussion with a special guest.
🎙️ From director Pablo Larraín (Jackie, Spencer) comes MARIA, another critically acclaimed and unconventional biopic from the Chilean filmmaker which sees Angelina Jolie portray one of the most iconic and acclaimed figures of the 20th century – the legendary soprano Maria Callas - a unique operatic diva with a voice that could express deep emotion and absolute technical perfection. Her vocal range and intensity of experience turned her into a legend who continues to fascinate audiences around the world today. Callas excelled in her ability to fully embody each role, making her performances unforgettable artistic experiences.
The story follows the opera singer who, after a dazzling but tumultuous life in the spotlight of the opera stage, retreats to seclusion in Paris. In between recollections of her fame, disappointments and complicated relationships (including one with Aristotle Onassis, the Greek raider and billionaire who was Maria's destined man), Callas comes to terms with questions of her own identity and the meaning of the life she has dedicated to music.
