Most Dead fans know Maria Muldaur as a back-up singer, alongside Donna, in the 1977-78 Jerry Garcia Band lineup. But she previously had a solo hit in 1973 with the sultry - and cheesy - Midnight at the Oasis (“you won’t need no harem, honey, when I’m by your side; you won’t need no camel, when I take you for a ride”). Muldaur opened for the Dead throughout the summer of 1974.
