Maria Montoya Book Reading

Maria E. Montoya is a Professor of History at New York University whose research focuses on labor, environmental, and Latine history in the American West. A Yale-trained historian and former Dean at NYU Shanghai, she is the author of Translating Property and co-author of Global Americans. Her latest book, A Workplace of Their Own (2026), explores industrial democracy through the work of Josephine Roche and John D. Rockefeller. She is also researching water scarcity in the Southwest and Protestant boarding schools' impact on Mexican American families.
