Scott Detweiler & Gumbo Nation will not only bring their authentic interpretations of classic and modern Mardi Gras music to Collage, but will also provide enlightening content in between songs, regarding the history of Mardi Gras, its meaning and relevance to the unique culture of New Orleans and its role in birthing and sustaining her signature music and rhythms. Those in attendance will surely be left with a greater understanding of this tradition that has lasted over 300 years, at the same time that they enjoy the emotional power of this celebratory music.

BIO FOR SCOTT DETWEILER

Scott Detweiler (DET-wy-ler) is an award-winning artist from New Orleans, where after studying Jazz Guitar at Loyola (N.O.) and Music Composition (U.N.O), he studied privately in the home of Ellis Marsalis. In Los Angeles he studied with Henry Mancini. He is a prolific writer and arranger, with dozens of releases under his own name and is a sought-after writer. Scott has performed internationally and with diverse artists such as James Andrews, Jackson Browne, Donny Most Big Band and Grammy Award Winner Bernie Dressel, to name a few. Scott is known for his command of the guitar, his powerful vocals, quirky originals and his unique arrangements and interpretations of classic recordings. His blues-based, soulful style, flavors in the grand tradition of New Orleans artists such as The Neville Brothers, Dr. John, and Trombone Shorty. His Gumbo Nation, is a band comprised of Albert Trepagnier, Jr. on drums (also a son of N.O. who has played with BB King, Chocolate Milk, etc.), Bill Johnston on horns (Kelly’s Lot, Chris Bell) and Matt Bragg on bass (Bill Withers, Big Daddys, etc.). Together, they provide some of the best interpretations of modern and classic Mardi Gras music to be found anywhere.

This show is in an intimate venue, and will also be livestreamed using our three camera system in high definition.
