The Marcus Mosiah Garvey Foundation (MMGF) will be hosting its annual flagship event to Celebrate the 135th Birthday of the RT. Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey. He is one of the fathers of Pan-Africanism and the first National Hero of Jamaica. This years event will take place on Wednesday the 17th August 2022 at the National Theatre in Accra, Ghana, starting at 12'noon.
The Celebrations promise to be the most elaborate, wide-ranging and exciting event in the foundation's history.
The day will start with the adults and children arriving from the various invited schools. The vendors will be displaying and selling their products outside in the theatre's grounds. There will be music, bouncy castles, face painting and other activities for the children.
In the Lobby of the theatre there will be story Boards telling the history of Marcus Garvey and also the outline of MMG Foundation's Vocational Training Programs. There will also be books, posters, paintings and indigenous crafts on sale.
In the auditorium there will be performances from nine schools, dramatizing key events in the life of Marcus Garvey and the Black Liberation struggles for Pan-Africanism. Performances will be judged by five judges, and a prizes will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. There will also be live stage performance from local artists and comedians.
In the Evening there will be a Marcus Garvey lecture, delivered by our keynote speaker. The theme will be Marcus Garvey's vision of Africa and the need for industrialisation. There will then be a Panel of experts to discuss how to inspire young people to spark the necessary new African Industrial Revolution.
The MMG Foundation will outline the role that it will play in providing vocational training to young people so as to promote the industrial visions of Marcus Garvey.
There will be a MMGF auction and a fundraising appeal to raise funds to support the training programs of the foundation.
After the questions and answers section, the MMG Foundation will launch its 2022 Magazine.
The Marcus Garvey Day Celebrations will close with Music and Dancing.
The program for the day will have something for everyone so we hope that you will come and join us in celebrating one of Africa's greatest heroes.
