From samba & bossa nova to psychedelic MPB and beach boogie, Marcos Valle stands as one of the most important composers, arrangers, and performers in Brazil’s history. Few artists anywhere can claim a career as stylistically rich and consistently brilliant as his six-decade journey. He burst onto the scene in the early 60s with ‘Samba de Verão’ (Summer Samba), a timeless anthem written with his brother Paulo Sérgio, now celebrated alongside ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ as one of the most recognizable Brazilian songs worldwide. When the bossa nova wave slowed, Valle reinvented himself in the 70s with albums like ‘Garra and Vento Sul’ blending psychedelia, MPB, and jazz, while also composing for film and TV. During this time he crossed paths with the future members of ‘Azymuth’, who took their name from one of his songs. By the 80s, Valle was collaborating with US soul legend ‘Leon Ware’, penning classics like ‘Rocking You Eternally’ before unleashing one of his biggest hits: the workout-boogie anthem ‘Estrelar’. His influence stretched across continents, inspiring everyone from ‘Sarah Vaughan’ and ‘Frank Sinatra’ to ‘Bebel Gilberto’ and even ‘Emma Bunton’ of the ‘Spice Girls’. Hip-hop and electronic artists later discovered his genius, with tracks sampled by ‘Jay-Z’, ‘Kanye West’, ‘Madlib’, ‘Childish Gambino’, and ‘Kaytranada’. Meanwhile, Europe embraced him as a cult hero through acid jazz, rare groove, and the crate-digger scene, leading to his long partnership with ‘Far Out Recordings’. Now, at 80, Marcos Valle continues to perform worldwide, returning to Dublin after 12 years, celebrating both a 20th anniversary reissue of ‘Contrasts’ and a lifetime of music that proves why he is and always will be the renaissance man of Brazilian pop.“Bossa nova pioneer” - Resident Advisor
