Soul Sessions Oslo & MUD Session Oslo present: HOUSE NIGHT at Soul Sessions Extended 2024, Friday October 4th at Sentralen, 21:30-01:00

No organized battle/competition, just jamming, exchanging and crazy good vibes with some real good music!

SSO + MUD = GOOD TIMES & GREAT VIBES.

Keeping the tradition lit alive, we celebrate Soul Sessions Oslo’s and MUD Sessions 5th year of collaboration during House Night at Soul Sessions Extended festival. As always, our focus is to bring forth top-tier artistry through our bookings, to shake one’s mind, body and soul on the dance floor. Last year marked a milestone for MUD and SSO, as Atjazz graced House Night with his vibes, and we only intend to build upon and elevate that experience this year. Sought after and on MUDs wishlist for quite some time, we roll out the red carpet for Marcia Carr aka Marcia Da Vinyl MC.

----------
Marcia Carr:
Hailing from UK, London, of Jamaican descent with background as seasoned club DJ, radio presenter and bonafide vinyl aficionado. Marcia has stood the test of time and is highly regarded amongst DJ peers within the UK Underground dance music scene. With more than 30+ years of experience as a DJ, she has joined the ranks of renowned DJs including Black Coffee, Louie Vega, Osunlade, Terry Hunter, François Kervorkian, Danny Krivit and Ash Lauryn to name a few. Not only that, but she has also DJed with, gained friendship, respect and trust of some of the most respected names in the scene: Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Larry Heard, Phil Asher (rip) and Gilles Peterson as a few noteworthy mentions. Marcia has received much critical acclaim for being among the first to pioneer DJ streaming culture, with her self-produced series “2 Decks And A Mixer”. A mix series that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the likes of such artists as Melba Moore, Gregory Porter, Dexter Wansel, Andrés, Kenny Dope.
Marcia encompasses a wide range of musical genres such as House, Afro, Techno, Broken Beat, Nu Jazz, Gospel and Disco, or as she refers to it: “it’s quality black music”. Meanwhile being a veteran DJ, Marcia has channeled her energy to advocate more visibility of female artistry within club culture. As a result, in 2015 the collective concept “Girlz B Like” was founded. An initiative which has hosted countless one-off events embodying female music producers, record label owners, recording artists, sound engineers, and of course DJs. To top it all off, as a former street/jazz dancer, Marcia knows how to work up crowds internationally. Expect the unexpected, as Marcia takes us on a journey into sound.

Repeating last year’s success with Sidki Camara providing that extra LIVE touch, we invite an up-and-coming musician to accompany Marcia Carr during her DJ-set. No-frills, delivering percussive magic, we welcome Markus Benjamin.
----------
Markus Benjamin:
Markus Benjamin is a multi-instrumentalist with a strong focus on drums and percussion. Through his diverse musical background and extensive experience, he has developed a deep understanding and proficiency in various musical genres. Benjamin has a particular passion for Brazilian samba, actively participating in this genre with his Roda de Samba group "Ripa Na Tulipa" in the Netherlands. In addition to samba, he also has a keen interest in electronic music, which he calls “Beat Music”. In this genre, Markus Benjamin experiments by blending drums and percussion in what he refers to as hybrid setups. This setup functions as an extended drum kit, but also as a broader percussive ensemble to create a more complex soundscape. In this way, he integrates traditional percussion techniques with modern electronic beats.
Markus Benjamin draws inspiration from the artist Kiefer, particularly through the motto "Be Encouraged, and Encourage Others," which he has adopted as his own musical credo. This motto reflects his philosophy of receiving and giving musical inspiration and motivation. Benjamin prioritizes artistic freedom and chooses to create music based on feelings and "vibes" rather than confining himself to specific genres. This approach allows him to explore and experiment with different musical expressions without being limited by genre definitions.

The night wouldn't be complete without MUDs resident DJs and local heads DJ Ghar and DJ Niwin.

MUD resident DJs:
As always, our very own celebrated local heads, MUD residents DJ Ghar घर and DJ Niwin will be responsible for the warm-up DJ-sets. Delivering old and new gems to get the crowd going and building an atmosphere on the dance floor.
----------

We have a little special SURPRISE in store. There's really no party without a proper MC to get things going right? Adding that extra flavour to spice things on the floor we welcome MC Zeps to House Night.
----------
MC Zeps:
MC ZEPS first discovered house music at 12 years old in Brooklyn NYC. His Titi Minerva would sneak him into underground Latin house clubs. He has been hosting Soul Sessions since 2013, and is the emcee for Grooves in the Park in Stockton California.
